TL;DRThe Short Answer: Is the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 Student Laptop Worth It?

Generous 20GB of memory and a 1TB SSD make this IdeaPad 1 look like more laptop than it is. The dual-core Celeron N4500 underneath sets the real ceiling: fine for writing, email and streaming, slow once you pile on browser tabs or heavier apps.

NoFussDeal rates the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 Student Laptop 3.9 out of 5 at $259.99. Last updated September 26, 2026.

How We Scored It

Based on
The manufacturer's published specifications and the product's live Amazon listing.
Owner rating
4.1 out of 5 on Amazon, recorded September 26, 2026
How we score
We score each thing that comes up most in owner feedback on the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 Student Laptop. Three things come up most in owner feedback: two split opinion and one draws mostly complaints. Its ratings average 4.1 stars (63% five stars, 13% four, 7% three and 17% one or two), so every score starts at 82, that average on a 100 point scale. Where opinion is split, we take off 6. Where it draws mostly complaints, we take off 12. Then we read five owner reviews in full (every one we found gave it four or five stars) and move the score up to 5 points either way depending on how the owners who mention it rated the product. Our overall score starts from the same 4.1 star average and loses 0.1 for each thing that draws mostly complaints, with 0.1 more when at least a tenth of ratings are one star, never more than 0.3 in all. Here that takes off 0.2, which gives 3.9. Read our editorial standards

Setting It Up

  1. Charge and Power On

Connect the included charger firmly and open the lid. By default the laptop can switch on when the lid is lifted.

  2. Complete Windows 11 Setup

Sign in, connect to Wi-Fi and set a PIN for sign-in. There is no fingerprint reader or face login.

  3. Run Windows Update

Let Windows Update finish before judging speed; a Celeron can feel slow while updates run in the background.

  4. Activate Office

If your unit includes the Office 365 subscription, activate it with your Microsoft account.

  5. Trim Startup Apps

Disable unneeded startup apps and background tasks to free the processor for what you're actually doing.

  6. Set Up the Keyboard

Press Fn + Esc to toggle Fn Lock if you prefer F1 to F12 to act as function keys rather than media keys.

The Verdict

3.9Out of 5

This IdeaPad 1 pairs a basic Celeron N4500 laptop with 20GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, and the upgrade makes it easier to live with: quick to open files, roomy for storage and better at keeping several things open. The full HD anti-glare screen, numeric keypad and ports cover everyday needs well. The processor still limits it, and speed is the most common complaint, so it suits writing, documents and streaming rather than heavy multitasking or creative work. Expect real battery life below the rated figure, and budget for a mouse and headphones.

Who should buy it

  • Students and writers
  • Households wanting a big-screen everyday laptop
  • Anyone who needs lots of storage on a small budget
  • People replacing an older laptop for email and browsing

Buy it for the storage, screen and everyday ease. If you regularly run many apps at once, edit photos or video, or simply want a laptop that feels fast, pick one with a stronger processor instead of more RAM.
