Chute and Plunger Safety
Safety is the reason to buy this slicer, and it is the aspect that draws the most praise with almost no dissent. Food goes into a vertical chute, and a plunger pushes it down through a blade hidden inside the body. Your hand holds the plunger handle, so it never comes near the edge, and there is no need for cut-resistant gloves or for sacrificing the last inch of a vegetable. The plunger locks with a twist, so it cannot drop into the chute during storage; one owner took a while to discover that it must be twisted to release. Owners describe it as safe enough for older children, and one lets their 12 and 13-year-olds help with meal prep. Suction feet on the base hold the slicer to the counter, and one owner describes them as just right: firm while slicing, easy to lift afterward. The chute does have a cost. Anything wider than its opening must be cut down first, which means a knife comes out anyway for whole onions or large potatoes. And one owner finds the pusher can jam at the bottom of the slicer, needing a few tries to dislodge before the next batch.
