Samsung UV Sanitizer Review: Easy Sanitizing, Fussy Wireless Charging

Samsung's UV Sanitizer is a lidded white box that bathes whatever sits inside in UV-C light for a timed cycle, with a Qi wireless charging pad built into the floor. The pitch is two jobs in one spot on the nightstand: clean the phone and top it up while it sits there. In practice the two halves are not equally good, and knowing which half you are buying for decides whether it earns its place.

TL;DRThe Short Answer: Is the Samsung UV Sanitizer Worth It?

As a phone sanitizer this box is simple and dependable: close the lid, press one button and a 10-minute UV-C cycle runs and shuts itself off. As a charger it is the weak half, slow and fussy about placement, so a phone off-center or wearing a grip may not charge at all. Expect to flip it for a second pass.

NoFussDeal rates the Samsung UV Sanitizer 4.3 out of 5 at $39.99. Last updated September 27, 2026.

What Stands Out

  1. One button starts a 10-minute UV-C cycle that ends by itself, with a beep when it finishes.
  2. The light switches off automatically the moment the lid is opened.
  3. A Qi wireless charging pad in the floor can charge a compatible phone during the cycle.
  4. The compartment is sized for large phones; Samsung says it takes a Galaxy S20 Ultra.
  5. A magnetic cover holds the lid shut and a rubber stopper softens it when opening and closing.
  6. Powered by the included USB Type-C cable; a wall charger is not in the box.

Strengths and Drawbacks

What works

  • One button starts a 10-minute UV-C cycle that ends on its own.
  • The light cuts out the moment the lid opens.
  • Room for large phones, glasses and small accessories.
  • Charges a compatible phone during the cycle when it is placed well.
  • Magnetic lid with a cushioned close and a clean white design.
  • Light enough to pack for travel.

What does not

  • Wireless charging is slow and needs the phone dead center.
  • Thick cases and phone grips can stop it charging.
  • The light mainly treats the side facing up, so a second pass is often needed.
  • Too light to open one-handed; the whole box lifts with the lid.
  • No wall adapter in the box.
  • Some units stop working, so keep the packaging during the return window.

Features in Depth

01

One-Button 10-Minute UV-C Cycle

Cycle Length 10 minutes Controls Single button Auto Off Yes, at cycle end

Everything about the sanitizing side is built around one button. Close the lid, press it, and the UV-C lamps run for 10 minutes before switching off on their own, with a beep to say the cycle is finished. There is nothing to set, no app and no timer to choose, which makes it easy to fold into a routine such as dropping the phone in when you get home. The limitation is coverage. The lamps light what faces them, and the underside of whatever sits on the floor of the box gets much less exposure, so owners who want the whole phone treated run a second cycle after turning it over. Samsung cites testing by Intertek and SGS against common bacteria, but results on a real phone depend on how much of its surface the light actually reaches, so clean off visible grime first, since UV works on surfaces it can see and does not remove dirt.

02

Lid Interlock and Magnetic Cover

Safety Cut-Off Light stops when lid opens Lid Magnetic cover with rubber stopper Finish Signal Beep

UV-C light is harmful to eyes and skin, so the most important safety feature is the interlock: open the lid mid-cycle and the light stops immediately. That makes the box safe to use around a household without anyone needing to remember a rule. The cover is held shut magnetically, which keeps the light sealed in while it runs, and a rubber stopper cushions the lid so it does not snap closed noisily. The magnetic closure has one side effect worth knowing before you buy. The box is light, so lifting the lid with one hand tends to lift the whole unit with it, and one owner found it needs a second hand to steady the base. The end-of-cycle beep is a matter of taste: it is a useful signal that the cycle is over, though one owner finds it obnoxiously loud.

03

Built-In Qi Wireless Charging

Charging Standard Qi wireless Power Input USB Type-C cable Wall Adapter Not included

The floor of the box doubles as a Qi wireless charging pad, so a compatible phone can charge while it is being sanitized, or simply live in the box overnight. This is the half of the product that divides owners. Qi charging needs the phone's coil to sit over the pad's coil, and in a compartment large enough for the biggest phones it is easy to leave a phone a little off-center. When that happens the phone may show it is charging while barely gaining, and one owner who uses a finger grip on the back of his phone found it would not charge through it at all. Slow charging is the most common complaint overall. Samsung describes the charging as fast, but no charging wattage is published, and the wall adapter is not included, so speed also depends on the USB power source you plug the cable into. Treat it as a convenient top-up rather than your primary charger.

Compartment Size and What Fits

Dimensions 3.09 x 8.98 x 1.94 inches Fits Up to Galaxy S20 Ultra size Color White

The box measures 3.09 x 8.98 x 1.94 inches, and the compartment is sized for large phones; Samsung says it accommodates a Galaxy S20 Ultra, and one owner fits an iPhone 14 Pro Max with no trouble. Because the charging pad is Qi-based rather than Samsung-specific, it is not limited to Galaxy phones. The same space takes glasses, earbuds and other small accessories, which is a practical use for the spare room. Tablets and anything bigger will not fit. Size is a mixed point on balance: owners with large phones appreciate the room, while others find the box larger than they want on a bedside table. Samsung's documentation states that it will not charge watches, so a smartwatch can be sanitized inside but should be charged on its own charger.

How we score
We score each thing that comes up most in owner feedback on the Samsung UV Sanitizer with Wireless Charging. Seven things come up most in owner feedback: one draws praise, five split opinion and one draws mostly complaints. Its ratings average 4.4 stars (66% five stars, 19% four, 8% three and 7% one or two), so every score starts at 88, that average on a 100 point scale. Where opinion is split, we take off 6. Where it draws mostly complaints, we take off 12. Then we read eight owner reviews in full, including the critical ones, and move the score up to 5 points either way depending on how the owners who mention it rated the product. Our overall score starts from the same 4.4 star average and loses 0.1 for each thing that draws mostly complaints, with 0.1 more when at least a tenth of ratings are one star, never more than 0.3 in all. Here that takes off 0.1, which gives 4.3. Read our editorial standards

What Buyers Say

The one-button routine and the automatic 10-minute cycle win the most goodwill, and large phones fit inside without trouble. Opinion splits on the charger. Some phones charge happily, others only when placed dead center, and slow charging is the most common complaint. A second pass is often needed because the light reaches only the side facing up, and a minority of units stop working altogether.

Setting It Up

  1. Connect power

Plug the included USB Type-C cable into the box and into a USB wall adapter or other USB power source. No adapter comes in the box, so use a good-quality one you already own.

  2. Wipe off visible dirt

Give the phone or item a quick wipe first. UV light only reaches surfaces it can see and does not lift grime, so a clean surface gets more from each cycle.

  3. Place the phone dead center

Lay the phone screen up in the middle of the floor so its charging coil sits over the pad, and remove bulky cases or stick-on grips if it will not charge.

  4. Close the lid and press the button

Close the magnetic lid fully, then press the single button. The cycle runs for 10 minutes and beeps when it is done.

  5. Turn it over for a second pass

For full coverage, flip the phone and run another cycle so the side that sat against the floor gets its share of light.

Common Questions

How long does a sanitizing cycle take?

Ten minutes. Press the button with the lid closed, and the UV-C light runs for 10 minutes, then switches off and beeps.

Does it clean both sides of the phone at once?

Not fully. The light mainly reaches the side facing up, so owners who want both sides treated run a second cycle after flipping the phone.

Does it work with iPhones and other non-Samsung phones?

The compartment fits large phones of any brand, and one owner uses an iPhone 14 Pro Max in it. Charging uses the Qi standard, so any Qi-compatible phone can charge, provided it sits centered on the pad.

Why is my phone not charging in it?

The most common causes are a phone that is off-center, a thick case, or a grip or metal plate on the back. Center the phone over the pad, remove anything bulky and use a good USB wall adapter.

Is a wall charger included?

No. The box comes with the sanitizer, a USB Type-C cable and a user manual. You need your own USB power adapter.

Can it charge a smartwatch?

No. Samsung's documentation states it will not charge watches. A watch can go inside for a UV-C cycle, but charge it on its own charger.

The Verdict

4.3Out of 5

Judged as a UV sanitizer, Samsung's box does exactly what its design promises with almost no effort: one button, a 10-minute UV-C cycle, an automatic shut-off and a lid that stops the light the moment it opens. It is roomy enough for large phones, glasses and small accessories, and light enough to travel with. Judged as a wireless charger, it is much less convincing. Charging is slow, a phone has to sit dead center to charge at all, and grips or thick cases can block it. The light also mainly reaches the side facing up, so a thorough clean means two cycles. Buy it for the sanitizing routine and treat the charging as a bonus, and it is easy to live with.

Who should buy it

  • People who want a simple phone-cleaning routine
  • Anyone who wants to run glasses and earbuds through a UV-C cycle too.
  • Owners of large phones who need a roomy compartment.
  • Travelers who want a light sanitizer that runs from USB power.

Who should skip it

  • Anyone who wants a fast wireless charger first and foremost.
  • People who use a phone grip or a thick case they won't remove.
  • Smartwatch owners hoping to charge their watch in it.

A simple, roomy UV sanitizer worth buying for the cleaning routine, as long as you don't count on its charger.
